Discussion:
Causes progressive hearing loss, commonly presenting in 4th or 5th decade.
Most common type involves fissula ante fenestram (anterior to oval window). Other type is retrofenestral which involved the boen surrounding the cochlea.
Typically occurs as lucent bony changes throughout most of its clinical course, hence the term otospongiosis. Also called otosclerosis as late stage involves sclerosis of the involved bone.
